FAQS

Question:
I have a sweater that the care label reads "Hand Wash Only". Can I wash it on the delicate cycle?

Answer:

There is some risk involved in using any care process not recommended by the manufactuer. Hand washing involves manual removal of soils with water, detergent and a gentle squeezing action. A care label that reads "Wash on Delicate Cycle" indicates the soil can be removed with water, detergent or soap, slow agitation and reduced time in the washing machine. If you do choose to wash your garment on the delicate cycle, agitation may be further minimized by putting the item in a net bag. Even this procedure is in violation of the care label instructions, and places responsibility for damages on the launderer rather than the manufacturer.

Question:
YIKES! I went to get something out of my out-of-season closet and found that my favorite blouse has mildew on it. Smells bad and looks even worse. How can I prevent this from happening again?

Answer:

I'm sorry to hear about your blouse. The key to preventing mildew is by not storing soiled garments in damp conditions.

-Soiled clothes should be kept dry and cleaned as soon as possible. Do not put damp clothes in a pile or in a hamper.
-Store clothes for long periods only when they are clean, dry and unstarched.
-Do not store in damp closets, bathrooms or basements. Storage containers and drawers should be clean.
-Prevent high humidity in storage areas with good ventilation, air conditioning and/or a dehumidifier.
-During periods of high humidity, exposing garments to air and sun can help prevent mildew.
-Correct any causes of excessive dampness in the house.
